Fireworks and Making Babies

We went to see a local Christmas tree lighting and were showered with fireworks afterward. There was a chill in the air, luckily the littles had snuggly jammies on. I was delighted with how much Azure enjoyed the evening, pointing and squealing at everything she found amusing. Of course, we're always a sight, four little girls in tow. Following the show, we decided to stop for some late night fries. I passed wipes back to the crew to clean hands as we waited in the drive-thru for our oh-so-hot-fries which I love that way (sometimes I make Ryan send them back for piping hot ones, not minding the extra wait--I think I get that from you, dad) As we were waiting, we had a bit of a discussion with our eldest:

Divine: How do you make babies?

Me: (Looking at Ryan) Well, when mommies and daddies love each other, they get together and make a baby. (Hoping this very vague answer would suffice her questioning)

Ryan: A mommy and daddy "connect" and then a baby is made. (Me, getting nervous that we're getting to graphic for our 6 year-old)

Silence.

Divine: Will you make me a baby?

Me: Oh, Divine, babies are a lot of work. You need to get married first.

Silence.

Ryan: Divine, are you talking about making babies out of your wipe?

Divine: Yes.

Ryan and I: laughing with great relief

Me: How about some fries?

(Making babies conversation dropped)

  1. I told that story to everyone last night. It is hard not to panic as a parent. Do we make parenting too hard sometimes?

  3. We have those same snuggly pajamas for Mila, they are so cute. Calvin asked how the babies get in the tummy the other day. It was scary.

  4. It's a good thing the practical side came out to quelch the "fireworks", right"

By the way, I CAN make babies out of wipes.
