When Delia asked me to sew up the new Five & Ten Design dress by the end of August, I don't think she meant the very last day. ;) But here we are. I barely made the deadline once again.
Have you seen this floating around the blogging world, yet?
It's a basic pattern with 10 variations designed by 5 bloggers. The ebook is full of beautiful photos and instructions on how to create each look.
I love all the options it gives you: side placket (the one I chose), an open back, cap sleeves, gathered, A-line, a mix-and-match smorgasbord of sewing goodness.
Olive's birthday was coming up and I try to sew them birthday dresses (usually they're late). Her loves are elephants and yellow...and twirling, of course! My little ballerina.
I added the aqua touches of piping and glass buttons closely spaced. I stitched the skirt opening shut from about 2" below the waist to the hem instead of having to come up with a closure. We'd be late every time she wore this dress if there were buttons all the way down! ;)
I took Olive out of school to take her on her birthday lunch date with me and to get her first pedicure, which she is examining. She chose neon orange with flowers. I think I enjoyed watching her more than she enjoyed the experience. The lady in the school office asked where we were going and I told her that Olive had requested Thai food. After she picked her jaw up off the ground she gushed about how great that was. I had to agree with her. I love my Olive.
She filled our time with the retelling of a book her teacher is reading to them in school, although she couldn't remember most of the characters' names, but I loved giving her ALL of my attention instead of just 1/6th. She talked so much she didn't even finish her chicken satay.
Go check out the 5 and 10 design book and make something fun!
