Magnolia Manor Reveal: Happy Laundry

Quite fortunately my parents happened to be in town almost a year ago when we looked at this house with Wilma, our realtor.  And no matter how old you get, you always want the approval of your parents and to show off.
We fell in love with the bones, basically, because nothing had been done to our specific tastes, but we could envision changes and living many happy years.

My mom, once we knew both in our hearts and in our minds, that this was our home-to-be, was probably most excited for me about the fact that I didn't have to do laundry in the garage anymore.  Because she knows.

Sometimes I'd pull the car in too far and couldn't get the washing machine open enough to do laundry, or I'd drop the freshly laundered clothes on the garage floor, which is never a good thing.  Or.
I'd find a SNAKE in the garage and refuse to go out there for anything at all, let alone to do the laundry, until Ryan enlisted my help to get the creature out of our living spaces.

Once again, I failed to take a decent before photo, but we took out the L portion of the closet that had a tiny bar sink, removed the water heater (and went tankless, oh my!), put in stackable units so there was room for counter space and cupboards and made it into my happy laundry closet of green goodness.

Our contractor tried to convince us to partition off some of the room to make a mudroom/laundry room, but we didn't plan on using the side door as a main entrance, and really, who wants to go in a little room and do laundry all alone?
I didn't have the luxury of a laundry sink either, so I don't blame her for being more excited about the prospect of indoor laundry for her daughter with 6 very messy children.  She knows.

  3. Oh I'm so happy for your laundry closet! And your sink! We have a laundry sink and it's one of the things I was most excited for when we bought our home. We looked at another home where the washer hookups were in the garage...um no! I am so happy for you! I love the green counter too.

  5. Do you live in the South now? Lovely house. The house I grew up in had a giant magnolia in the front yard. I loved that tree!

  6. I love what you have done with the laundry, particularly that brilliant green. I can remember when we were young looking at houses where the laundry was an afterthought in the garage and was convinced that it was designed by a man. An unmarried man without children.

  9. Nice Green! It's so great to have a clean space to launder in - makes you feel like you are actually cleaning the clothes instead of just washing them! I'm glad you are posting again. I love your photos. sherri(at)threadridinghood(dot)com

  12. loving your green countertop too! Is it laminate (Formica or similar)? I am looking for a bright green laminate countertop and the brightest I've found so far is red, although the shop said they'd be getting me a "not hunter" green sample soon... Do you mind sharing the details on that (maker/style)? Thanks!

  13. Enjoying your blog too late tonight. So fun! As a fellow mom of six, I would like to know if you like your washer and dryer, if you would recommend them, and if so what make/model they are. I need the advice of someone who does as much laundry as I do. Love your stunning creations and style!
