Those of you who are sticklers for that whole alphabetical order are going to go bonkers that I'm going out of order again. Hang tight, H & I are coming. Please accept my apology, but I'm part of a fun blog hop! So, today, J is for jumper and Ribbon Jar!
This started out as a plain, boring jumper. That was all I could come up with for J. Jumper. Super creative, Katy, right? I almost sat down with the dictionary to go through the J section when the people from Ribbon Jar asked if I'd join the fun. Ribbon Jar, you ask? A fun online shop full of 1,200 different ribbons!
I think I looked at 1,016 of those. It was so hard to decide which one I wanted them to send me.
But I finally decided on this lovely cutout ribbon that gave the jumper the perfect touch. From "eh" to "wow" with just a bit of ribbon.
And, it gets better! Ribbon Jar is giving a $25 gift certificate to one of you!! Hooray!
Also, I thought I'd show you what a photo shoot looks like with my wild Clover. Checking for pins above. Always checking for pins.
She makes me work for it. Love her guts.
SO! Leave me a comment (open to the whole world!) telling me which ribbon you would get and maybe what you would do with it, or not. Because I don't usually know what I'm doing with fabric or notions until I'm sitting on my sewing studio floor, rearranging and inspecting. Please also leave your email address if it's not in your profile. Open for one week.
Take a look at what everyone else is doing with their ribbons:

ps have you entered the $100 giftcard giveaway here, yet?
pps the jumper pattern is one I've had many years, so I'm not sure they still make it, but it's SUPER easy, just 3 pattern pieces, so it's fun to dress up with details. It's burda #9904. And here's the link to the ribbon I used.

ReplyDeleteBougainvillea Petersham Grosgrain Ribbon. It would go lovely with a little jumper I have material at home for. This would add the extra touch. :)
I loved the Hearts and Mushrooms on Turquoise Woven Ribbon. I have no idea what I'd do with it... Probably something for the new baby.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome jumper. Do you have a pattern for it? Or what pattern did you use?
ReplyDeleteAnd like you, I never know what ribbon or lace I will use until I am right in the middle of the project looking around the sewing room trying to find the perfect thing to match.
I'd get some pink pom pom trim. Maybe use it for a dress for my girls.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I love the measuring tape ribbon! How fun. I love the jumper and how the ribbon adds a whole bunch to it!
ReplyDeleteMelon French Velvet Ribbon 16mm- I have a thing for velvet. I think I would just sew some little stripes onto a sleeve or collar.
ReplyDeleteI love the red velvet ribbon, it just seems so romantic! I would probably make it into a headband or hairtie.
ReplyDeleteI love the Pumpkin and Black Striped Grosgrain Ribbon. And about a dozen more, but I have boys, so I had to settle on something more boyish. Otherwise I would never use it.
ReplyDeletewow! so many choices and you can search by colour. My littlest is into pink. Pink, pink, pink (we've been reading Pinkalicious!). A little bit of pink ric rac or gingham or bubbles added to a more neutral outfit would make her day (and mine because then she'd wear it!)
ReplyDeletemouellette80[at]hotmail[dot]com
I have no idea what I would do with it all (I'm not into planning), but I would probably pick one of the ribbon packs, like Baby It's Cold Outside. That way I won't have to make as much of a decision. Plus, it includes velvet!
ReplyDeletealyssabpittman at gmail dot com
Love the double scalloped ribbons!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Clover and the jumper.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably go for some velvet ribbon, or lace, or pom poms, or all of them! ;D
I would get the green moss velvet for a Thanksgiving dress I am working on.
ReplyDeleteI'd love the Satin Poppy Organdy Ribbon to make an elegant holiday wreath. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I just got lost over there for the past half hour! Yummy that is not NEAR enough time to choose! But I have a purse (tote) parrern that uses ribbons and I have been itching to try it!
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for velvet ribbon.....and theirs made me swoon!! Your J for jumper turned out sooo cute with that trim. Great job! And Clover is just adorbs...love the checking for pins :)
ReplyDeleteI love the "Zebra Print Woven Reversible Ribbon 23mm". I have so many ideas that I could use with this. That jumper is soooo cute. =]

the French Cotton Ribbon is very cute and would make the cutest dog collar embellishment on the dog silhouette pillows we are making for our rescue store.
ReplyDeleteThe jumper is exquisite!
What fun prints! For me it is a toss-up between fuchsia flowers on tangerine, and lemons on navy! I'd probably use them along the bottom of a little girl skirt! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe measuring tape ribbon--love it! I would use it on some piece of clothing for my daughter.
ReplyDeletekgdive[at]kc[dot]rr[dot]com
I'm planning on sewing up a simple crib skirt for our first baby (coming soon!). I think the yellow pom pom fringe would add the perfect finishing touch!
ReplyDeleteI like the zig zag ribbon pack, of course I chose a pack not just one :)! I too find inspiration from fabrics, ribbons, etc.
ReplyDeleteWow...what extraordinary ribbon. I hoard ribbon and trim (and buttons). I too don't decide what to use it for until a project is on the table. What a neat company! They have quite an exciting selection!
ReplyDeletedelia dot randall at gmail dot com
I'd like to use some of the velvet ribbon in a special Christmas dress for the baby! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would get a ric rac ribbon pack.
ReplyDeleteWhite Flowers on Olive Woven Ribbon 38mm. Oh that can be a dangerous site. Not sure what I would do with it yet.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! That ribbon you found is absolutely gorgeous. It took me awhile but I finally found it on their website. I've saved that one now so I know where to locate it when I can order. I don't know what I'll use it for, but I really must have some. LOL
ReplyDeleteRight now I'd love to order the Christmas Ornaments Woven on a Black Ribbon 40mm to use on dish towels and matching aprons. That would be a great Christmas gift. It would be great to even make oven mitts and stitch it to the top edge of those too.
Oh my gosh! Who knew there were so many different ribbons in the whole world!! I can't decide. I usually don't buy ribbon until I need it, and then all my leftovers are in a big heap.
ReplyDeleteUh-oh, you just opened Pandora's box for me - I'll be browsing this site for the next few hours! I love thevintage baby blue and white embroidered trim - I'd love to edge a dress with it for my daughter's first birthday!
ReplyDeleteWhere have I been? What fab ribbons. Fell for the red hearts on the scallop white and it would be perfect on a summer dress for my middle one. She'd love it to pieces! Start now it might be ready in time.
ReplyDeleteThe Vintage Zinnias on Dark Brown Woven Ribbon is lovely. I, of course, have no idea what I'd do with it. Perhaps embellishing a handbag.
ReplyDeleteThanks for introducing us to the shop.
mcasinghino (at)gmail (dot) com
I adore the white flowers on the olive woven ribbon. It is SO my style I would probably never use it because I couldn't commit!
ReplyDeleteYour jumper is darling! Love that trim!! I don't know that i can pick just ONE ribbon! Love anything polka dots and that gorgeous velvet ric rac! I'm sure it would be for my daughter. Maybe a trim on a standard O+S pattern? nicolebomeli (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteOoooo. I like the Lime on Raven French cotton ribbon. Ooo La La!
ReplyDeleteI really love the burgandy ribbon with the pears on it! Pretty.
ReplyDeleteBut I think I also need some pom pom trim - I've never used any before!
No idea what I would make, but I could come up with something. :)
How can one possibly know what to do with ribbon ahead of time?? I just spontaneously used some seam tape (because it was exactly the right length) and added ric-rac on top to finish an apron inside.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy it all! I'm like you I usually don't buy notions for a particular project but keep plenty on hand for a finishing touch! However,I do like the measuring tape ribbon and my daughter would love any of the sparkly stuff!
ReplyDeleteTheir herringbone is my favorite—it's stamptastic! I use it for labels on everything I make.
ReplyDeleteI love ribbon! How to pick just one? Can't do it! Melamom@juno.com

ReplyDeleteI really like your dress! the ribbon compliments it really nicely =) You made so many lovely dresses throughout this series, i'm thoroughly jealous of clover =) If I could get aaaanything i wanted from the ribbon jar site i think i would take one of the jars; preferably the biggest one or the black formal one =) (greedy? me? never! :D) but i would settle for the green and blue peacock ribbon =)

Pretty jumper. You do such nice work.
There are so many pretty ribbons to choose from. I'll have to start with a ribbon pack just cause it will to be too hard choose. I love to put ribbon on outfits I make for my daughter.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, decisions, decisions. I don't want to get my hopes up, so I'll decide if I win. My littles would love it if I did, so I could add some beautiful ribbons to their princess dresses!!!

70240, because Rick rack is kind of boring here in Canada, and because I love (LOVE) green, and because I thought your F(fish) dress was inspired, but wouldn't you know, that material doesn't exist any more. ( Sorry, muumuu lovers.). But I was thinking a kind of tree-ish version, with owls. To remind one of the elves, and Treebeard. What do you think? I'm at erinbaan@gmail.com. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love their velvet ribbons...such nice trim for dresses.
ReplyDeleteI would use the ruler/measuring tape ribbon and attach it to everything I own so I would have easy ability to measure. No seriously, love all of the tape.

ReplyDeletegiggedygeekmum AT gmail DOT com
Holly on Silver Woven Ribbon...I want to finish an advent calendar I started last year and I need a lovely holiday ribbon to finish the sewing project.

ReplyDeleteI probably would choose the Sew Happy Ribbon Pack or the Zig Zag Fun Ribbon Pack! but I don't really now how I'd use them..
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :)
So many amazing trims! I'd love to play with some velvet, but my favorite so far (I've only looked at about 200 of them so far...) is the Blue Flames on Black Woven Ribbon. Way cool for my little dudes!!!
ReplyDeletecadamsworship (at) yahoo.com
I love the special elastic trims. They are perfect for throwing together undies for my girl. Little girl undies are sooo easy! Just traced her best fitting pair to make a pattern, use a few knit scraps hanging around, and throw some pretty elastic trim on them!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I think I looked at as many ribbons as you did. I can't decide which one i would choose but know who the lovely recipient would be. My youngest. And she would have to pick it for her special dress to wear to see The Living Christmas tree. . .
ReplyDeleteI'd get some petersham. I've been wanting to try a petersham waistband for awhile.
ReplyDelete
