The Obligatory First Day of School Post

It's happened.  They're back in school, and I'm not sure how that slippery summer slid past so slyly.
It's the perpetual groundhog day experience, each year at the end of school I wonder what in the world we're going to do for the whole summer to keep everyone busy and happy and then before we have a chance to check off everything, it's time for fresh stacks of notebook paper, spotless shoes, and the scent of newly sharpened pencils.
We held our back-to-school dinner Sunday with the new theme Try Something New, pertaining to a few things.
My dad sent an engraved star to start us off, hung in our corner of blues. (You can get yours, any color and any phrase here!)  Olive asked if they could wear the lemonade crown from last year when they had trying something new to report.  Love her multi-purpose thinking.
This year is a new for us.  We have a middle-schooler.  What?!
We went to school last week so she could practice her locker combination.  Do you ever have those recurring nightmares?  Mine is always that I'm back in high school and can't remember my locker combination or my class schedule.  I wake up panicking every single time.
Ah.  My school girls.  We even almost got to school on time.  That's our next goal.
With freshly shod feet, we made our annual walk as a family to see them off after hugs and kisses from and for everyone.
Meanwhile, I've still got two monkeys hanging around at home.  This one will start a bit of school herself shortly,
and this one, not for a while.  Gratefully.
ps that's a sneak peek at a post I've got coming up that I'm so excited about!

  2. Oh my goodness, I'm glad I'm not the only one who had those awful dreams! I mean, I'm almost 30 and I still wake up all freaked out about forgetting my schedule! I don't know what the deal is.

Your girls are so sweet, all lined up in their uniforms! Good luck with the hubub of a new school year!

  4. Does it get easier? Four-year-old Grace started preschool last week... And it's scary. For us, at least. This is the first time she's been away from family! And, well, baby sister Nicole is still spending some time looking for her during the day. *sigh* It has me thinking that they grow up waaay too fast!

  5. I just had a conversation with someone the other day about nightmares I used to have (and sometimes still do!) of getting to school and completely forgetting my schedule and panicking.

Glad I'm not alone. :) ha.

Can't wait to see what the project is you have up your sleeve....

  11. Can I just say that I LOVE that you have a "theme" every year. Since my oldest is just starting pre-k we haven't started any traditions yet, I think that this one is a must do! Thank you!

  14. I am so glad I have another 2 weeks left to get up the courage to send my first off to Kindergarten. And by courage, I am trying to sound like I will miss him terribly but I am sure the 3 hours will go faster for me than it will for him :) I also need to know about that adorable white dress on Clover, it is just lovely.

  16. Wow, your school starts early. We've got two more weeks still. But I have a little one who will start Kindergarten and is a little nervous about the uniform. She thinks it's just not fancy! We've been having lots of talks about socks and headbands.

  23. I love that you really celebrate the beginning of a new school year. I need to do that more - it might help with the grumblies that seem to dominate at that time of year.

And by the way, are you saying other people stressed about forgetting their locker combination? All this time (and it's been a LONG time)I thought I was the only one!

  24. Do your kids go to a private school? I thought that in the usa you didnt have to wear school uniform? In the uk every school does!
