Ashley's Whole Wheat Waffles

Do you know anyone who is up for anything, anytime?
They love to try new things,
 they thrive on adventures,
and take every opportunity to savor each new experience.
It's my oldest sister's birthday and she is all of the above and more.  As I was thinking about what I wanted to share about her I thought it would be fun to share a recipe of hers, as that's another thing I love about her.  Culinary adventurist, but also healthy and whole in her concoctions.  Whole wheat waffles that actually taste light and fluffy, and well, amazing.  And I had plans of taking a whole bunch of beautiful photos as I made them, if the unground wheat, of the fluffy cloud-like whipped egg whites and the crispy, steaming waffles, freshly whipped cream with flecks of vanilla beans, and a drizzle of homemade orange sauce.  Good intentions.  Ryan whipped up the waffles for dinner and even added some pumpkin.  So, I leave you the recipe and my word that it's worth  and birthday wishes to my adventure-loving, life-absorbing sister.  Love ya, Ash.

Ashley's Whole Wheat Waffles
1 C whole wheat flour
3 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
2 t sugar
2 eggs separated
1 1/4 C milk
1/4 C oil

Beat the egg whites until you get peaks when you stop and pull the beaters out and then mix the rest of the ingredients and gently fold in the egg whites and cook in the waffle iron!

  4. I have never left a post before but I had to tell you how much I admire your ability to make everything special, no matter what it is. And you make it seem effortless. I have two children, a girl and a boy and sometimes I'm overwhelmed along with my full time job. You are such an inspiration to me...by your faith, your stamina, your patience, just everything. I would love to know what kind of camera you use if you don't mind sharing? Your little Drummer boy is such a handsome little guy and I'm sure his beautiful sisters are so much help with him. Congratulations. Thanks for a wonderful blog.

  5. Yum...I whip up the whites in my recipe too. It's the one step that just makes them divine. I'll have to try this. Thanks Katy! Happy Birthday to your sis.

  6. I took an intaglio class and a color theory class years ago from Ashley at BYU. She was awesome! We went to her (your) parents house for our final. Amazing. I want my house to be like that someday. Crazy how small this world seems sometimes! Thanks for keeping up such a great blog!
