Labor Day minus the Labor

Before it came, we all agreed it would indeed be perfect to go into labor on Labor Day, but perhaps it was a bit too cliché?
Yes, I think so.  This is going to be one classy baby ;).
Did you know that along with being a perfectionist, I am a procrastinator?  I was always doing assignments, projects, test studying, running for class officer posters the night before.  I don't know how my parents put up with it.  Maybe because my parents are the same way.
I feel like that's when the inspiration hits, when it has to hit.  When I was participating in Project Run & Play earlier this year I was always the last one to get my design in.  Of course Micalah let us know months in advance what the categories were.
I did only one of my designs early and it was the least well received.  So.
Procrastination suits me, I guess.
This baby can't stay put forever, though.
And while I admit to rolling my eyes and letting out a sigh when I drop anything on the floor that I have to pick up myself,
I am secretly delighted at all I've been able to accomplish this past week and a half with our creation still chubbing up inside. It's kind of like extra credit, bonus time where every little thing I get done is a free gift.
Plus.  I still haven't finished my first official crocheted project.
Another discovery: I've decided crocheting isn't particularly for me.
Or maybe it's the fact that it's still well into the 90s here, humid as your morning shower, I have been pregnant for almost 42 weeks, or the bigger and warmer this blanket gets, the bigger and warmer I get.
Maybe I'll revisit crocheting way past post partum.
Meanwhile, the pogo-stick bouncing competitions between daddy and daughter continue.
Because it's awfully fun to see my distinguished man bouncing like the energizer bunny.  The man is fit and has superb balance.  Divine can barely get the thing to bounce, but she can still hold her own.
It feels like I might be pregnant forever.  I've resigned myself to my über limited wardrobe.
With my first birth I naïvely brought regular size clothes for going home.  I've learned.  And haven't bounced back quite so quickly with each following birth.  My bags are properly packed this time.  I think.
Come baby.

  1. oh i adore your picture filled posts. thank you :O) Apparently i was confused when guessing Baby Dill's arrival for the 31st- I must have been thinking the Cottage Momma who had Caspian that day and one of my best friends who welcomed Nora Leigh then as well. glad your spirits are still up and you are getting your list accomplished!

  2. aw. I feel bad for you being nearly 42 weeks! I was 2 days over my due date and had cried all day because I thought I was going to be pregnant forever! (yep - 1st one). Hope you get to meet your baby this week! ps. cute pics :)

  4. I have been reading your blog for awhile now, but this is my first comment. I just wanted to say, I feel your pain lol 3 of my 8 babies were born 2 weeks past my due date, including number 8, who will turn 2 at the end of this month. As an encouragement, I will say that all 3 of these babies were my quickest labors. Sophia, baby 8, was born 2 hours and 21 minutes from the first contraction : ) My earliest baby Ava, number 7, was my longest labor. 18 hours! She was born one day past my due date.

Funny, I am a big procrastinator as well. Wonder if that has anything to do with these very done babies?! LOL Hoping for your sake that this baby comes soon : )

  5. Sending you good thoughts for a quick (in all ways), uneventful, safe birth, Katy! And for you to all find your new normal at home soon, too. I love how much you got done in just these few weeks before Baby Dill 6 makes his/hear appearance. You're amazing!

  6. I love, love, love visiting this lovely space!!! Your entire family is so beautiful inside and out. I'm a mother of two sweet girls myself (very nearly 17 on the 17th of this month and even more very nearly 7 this Friday!) and I am 45 today! so I would love to share my birthday with your newest little angel! Here's hoping baby comes today! God Bless!

  8. Oh my goodness, I keep checking to see if you've had the baby yet, I'm so anxious for him or her to arrive! lol! I hope for your sake it's very soon!

And also, if I were making a blanket entirely of what looks like half double crochet, I wouldn't like crocheting either, that would be so tedious! But, I LOVE to crochet - now that you know an easy stitch, try something with more variation and you might not dislike crocheting so much :)

  9. Ah.....so anxious to add another beautiful grandchild to this mix. What great blessings we have. Thank you for the heartfelt and thoughtful posts.

    Love you so much!

  10. Erica-Yes! It's the only stitch I know (although I don't know what the difference between double and half-double is), so I think I need a seasoned crocheter to come show me the ropes. And you're probably right about learning other variations. Will you come visit? ;)

  11. Hey Katie don't give up on crochet yet. Your brave for doing such a long project in the summer. Next time try a hat or baby booties. Ravelry.com is filled with great beginer baby projects. let me know if i can help you figure any out.

  12. 13 years ago Labor day fell on the 7th of September and I was a week overdue with my first Baby. I was lying down all day because my back hurt so bad and I eventually got up and took a bath because that always made me feel better. What I didn't realize is that I was having back labor and taking a bath just made it worse I was in labor for almost 16 hours. But he was finally here on 8.9.1998. I feel for you and I wish you a speedy and joyous birth.

  13. I made the royal mistake of opting to induce with child #2 because my doctor was going to be on vacation... 8 rounds of pitocin, no epidural... it was torturous for me and for my little one (and she's extra spicy - perhaps the drugs are still in her system, heh heh). Good for you to let nature's hands guide that blessed baby into your arms - soon, Katy. Soon!

  14. Good luck with labor and delivery! I can't wait to see if you have a boy or girl (I secretly think it's a boy).

  17. Awe Katy...hang in there. Late babies are just more rotten, which makes them more fun. They want the extra attention ;)
I had two late out of five--and those 2 spent their extra time developing an extra large personality I think.

  18. I was pulling for a Labor Day baby. It's not too cliche - my mom had my sister on Labor Day:). And I don't believe the slower to bounce back part.

  19. well, this new little addition has a whole lot of cuteness to compete with. from the oldest to the youngest and all in between (including the 42 week pregnant one), CUTE!!! is that little naked one ready to meet the new born on common ground, no clothes! love your photos, they tell the story. :>)

  20. Love, love those photos. Hang in there! ;-)

  22. LOVE that photo of your mom with you in the foreground.
    Ryan? Your doing?

My bet was on yesterday, too. Ben's bet is tomorrow. I'm hoping he wins!

  23. PS: That's what I loved about being overdue too! I finished all the things I wanted done before Baby in that last week!

  24. I can relate...and i think procrastinators are often perfectionists (and are misunderstood). My sister advised my husband to be "Just go with the projects. In the end, you will marvel". Sometimes he does. Looking forward to more marveling with you through your beautiful site.

  25. Is the blue on your blanket any indication of something you are sensing??

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, I feel so bad for you. i was 41 weeks with all of mine, but 42 weeks with your sixth seems particularly cruel. Big hugs!

  27. while crocheting is one of my passions, I do tend not to choose blankets to crochet in the middle of summer! :) I love the colours you've chosen for your project the teal and taupe with white is very crisp and lovely.
My mother went into labour and gave birth to my brother, on labour day, 33 years ago...it IS a cliche, sadly, everyone thinks THEIR labour day birth jokes are new and funny. Pro-tip, they're not! I'm glad baby didn't put you through that hamster wheel!

Your perky outlook, in the face of what is no doubt a very difficult wait, is inspiring! Soon, SOON you will see who is in there and get to know that brand new soul!

  28. also, your sense of humor cracks me up. Nothing but leaves to wear and packing your birthday suit for post delivery attire...brilliant!

  29. Katie--nope. I thought all my girls were going to be boys and I thought this one was coming early. No inclinations (at least correct ones) here! ;o

  30. I'm just gonna say it. I love you. I love you and I don't even know you.

I found your blog around Easter after following a friend's link here. I made a version of your "Don't hate me because I dyed it" skirt for my daughter and I for our Easter outfits, and since then I've been hooked.

Everyday I pop in this little space hoping to see the announcement of a new little one. I love that you're so possitive about being over-due. (not that you have a whole lot of say-although most of my friends would say JUST GET INDUCED!!) I was 15 days "late" with my first, and only a day "late" with my second, but am a firm believer in letting Littles bake as long as they see fit.

Good luck with the delivery. I hope it's everything you want it to be.

    and for the record...
    I think it's a boy,
    and
you're the most gorgeous pregnant woman I think I've ever seen.

I am having neck cuddles and kisses from my two year old as i type this. Your lovely pics are making me melt too. Time is precious and fleeting isn't it?

  35. Katy - Tonight at bedtime I read "Ollie" by Olivier Dunrea to my 4 year old and thought of you. It is about a little egg that won't hatch. Best wishes to your family.
