Teacher Appreciation Dinner '09

We had Teacher Appreciation Dinners growing up. My mom loved it because it would get us to clean our rooms so we could show our teachers when they came. But that's not why they went to such work. My parents were (are) wise. Invite the teachers into your home. Feed them good food. Show them you care about them. In turn, they will care more about your child. Everyone wins, right? Last year we had a reluctant teacher, but we didn't let her off the hook and she now waves at us with a smile when we see her at school. This year, we even had spouses join us. Corsages for the lovely teachers. Ryan brought home Ramune beverages--the Asian sodas where you have to knock the marble inside to open it--the perfect ice breaker to begin our evening. The kids settled in, the teachers warmed up, and it turned into a gratifying time for all.

Oh, and I don't think anyone noticed I only ironed the front quarter of their napkins.

  3. I think that closing the gap between home and education is a powerful move in the right direction.

  4. What a great idea! We may have to copy that tradition into our own family!

  5. What was the menu? How could a foodie like you forget to include this? ;)

  6. Oh, yes. The menu. Coconut cream chicken curry served over Jasmine rice, oven roasted carrots, snap peas in sesame oil with black sesame seeds, honeydew with fresh lime, creme brulee with fresh raspberries for dessert.

And I couldn't have done this without Ryan. That man is amazing.
