An asymmetrical high-waisted sailor-inspired skirt

How's that for a title?

When we were in NY, I found a pair of wool sailor pants and longingly fingered them, knowing I'd never wear them in Florida. When Jordan was here a couple weeks ago, we found some really cute sailor pants at Anthropologie.  They were still full price, so again I bid them farewell.  I resolved that I was simply going to have to make a pair, but this skirt evolved instead.

I'm glad it did.

  5. Very nice Katy. Your presentation is awesome!

I have a question - sort of unrelated. What is the fascination with Anthropologie? The Utah and Arizona bloggers I read all love this store. What am I missing? Thanks, Susie

  6. Love it - I have a pair of authentic sailor pants and boy do they itch - this skirt does not look itchy.

Do you alter patterns, or are you able to do this entirely without a pattern?

  7. Christy-this is the yard of our neighbor who is NEVER home. I took liberties.

Susie--Anthropologie is attractive to so many people because it has such a unique, retro-but-redone style.

Cathy-for this I used a pattern for the side panels, but took out 2 of the seams, and added the waist band. Thank goodness for pattern alteration lessons from Mrs. Price! Somehow I knew you'd have an authentic pair of Sailor pants!

  8. I don't get the fascination with Anthro either. Some of their stuff is really cute, but a lot of it is just really weird or ugly. And then there's the rip-off component. I'm impressed that Katy can design & sew her own things...the sailor skirt is really nice.
