A Bona Fide Pregnant Shot

What joy to read all the comments and the guesses on this baby Dill 6!  [Should I have a nickname for this baby babe?]  I received an email from my mom saying, Don't you love all these women who share their excitement?  I agree. This blogging community among women is powerful and so wonderful, isn't it?  There was a request to actually see this belly of mine, as a proper way to guess boy or girl, though I doubt it will help in regards to eye color and due date ;)  This photo was taken a few weeks ago.  Have you ever tried to take your own photo and smile at nothing?  Always feels a bit weird to me, thus the seriousness.  I'm concentrating on clicking the button and making sure my head is in the shot...clearly it was.
We didn't tell the littles about this soon-to-arrive-change-your-world addition until I had my 20 week ultrasound and took them with us.  We got into the darkened room and I asked if they knew why we came.  They thought it was for my 100 day cough.  You can imagine the thrill, as I told them a new baby is expected.  With their quick chatter, and excitement, the verdict came--they all want a baby brother--except for Pearl.   They frequently brainstorm for names and think their advice has high merit.  My recent favorite suggestion, Fabio. Pearl and Divine have been able to feel the baby move and I think they will be a huge help when this little bundle arrives.  I am looking forward to the amusement it will be to watch them be "little mother" not just big sister, as the age gap is larger than it has been with any of the others.

I am far past the morning sickness, and closer to feeling heavy laden. Cravings have subsided, yet I find great satisfaction in snacking on sprouts [mung being my favorite]--I have two jars in rotation with intentions of doing a little tutorial for those who asked.  My eating phases: Arby's roast beef sandwiches [I know, please don't judge a pregnant woman who normally detests beef], peanut butter and jelly sandwiches [I would sometimes eat 3 a day], cucumbers [just cut up with a little salad dressing, and I'd eat the whole thing], watermelon [of course], and avocado smoothie.

What about you?  Do you have strange cravings during your pregnancies?

  1. I can't believe you're that far along!! How did your kiddos not suspect anything for 20 weeks? Maybe they're just too young still, huh? After being through it a couple of times, my older ones now have quick suspicions - if I ever eat Saltines or act tired, they're quick to ask if we're having another baby.

I can't wait to hear what it is!

  2. I am so excited about Baby Dill 6!
I think Fabio is a solid Choice.
I am at 9 weeks with my very first and I just can't get enough guacamole and watermelon in my system. I crave it constantly. Both, either, together, whatever. Yum.

  3. 1. I had finally given up on asking... and you are finally expecting ;-)!

    2. I'm sooo excited for you and can't believe you hid it from the kids and blog followers for so long! You are strong! The second the test is positive I can barely refrain from sharing the news :-)!

    3. Can the rest of us find out what you're having, but we will promise to keep it a secret? ;-)

    4. Other than clothes what are some money saving tips you have for people who have larger families and love being able to afford healthy foods for their families?

    5. Have I mentioned how excited I am for you guys? Congratulations!!!

  6. With my boy pregnancy I craved beef like crazy....I would dream of steaks on the grill...and my girl pregnancy all I wanted was salads.

So maybe your Arby's is a good sign!

  7. What a wonderful thing.....wonderful mum and dad , a beautiful family and now another!!!! So happy for you !!! I think 6 girls would be wonderful but I think it may be a boy....what a wonderful man he will make with 5 sisters!!! My husband said that having sisters was really important in making him a better husband...well...it's all very wonderful. .......and I so agree about this amazing blog world and women...it has changed my life!!

  8. My craving wasn't strange except for the fact that normally I cannot stand the combination of apples with peanut butter. But that was my go-to snack (especially after I developed hypoglycemia).

And I'm not judging you on Arby's roast beef. I have cravings for those myself even when I'm not pregnant. But only if they are slathered in Arby's Sauce, lol.

  9. Ahhhhhh, you look so cute! My belly is much more high-up and sticking straight out. So, I'm going to guess you're having another girl since I'm having a boy. Are you due right around the same time I am? Can't believe you kept this secret for so long. And yes, I crave anything sweet when I'm pregnant - usually I love salty things, pregnancy is the only time I LOVE sweets!!

certainly haven't been here in awhile.
    i just thought to myself..
wonder what the dills have been up to
and you have clearly been up to something.

i'll tell you what my granny said to me
when i announced (only) my second pregnancy:

"honey, you know where babies come from??"

SO HAPPY for you and quite jealous.

  11. This go around my cravings have stayed the same. Fruit snacks, of any shape and kind. Chocolate milk, salad, and homemade yogurt with lots of fruit and graham crackers.
Hope you get a little man, that would be fun to see what you create for him! But then again, another girl would be just as much fun!

  12. You look gorgeous! No wonder you love being pregnant!
My one and only true pregnancy craving was with my first, Abby, and I craved chicken ala King when I could stomach nothing else. I went on a wild goose chase looking for that stuff!
Love hearing about your experiences, katy. I don't know what this baby will be, but I pray that it is healthy and that you get to have the beautiful natural birth that you desire. From one mom to another. XO

  13. I can't believe you could keep it from your kids so long! Of course I have no room for a baby so it grows straight out from day one and most people guess I am about to pop at 20 weeks, you so cute! Best of luck whatever the gender may be. I love not finding out it makes the birth so wonderful!

  14. What great news! I can't wait to hear the next baby dill name! Where are you at in the picture with the wood behind you? Stunning setting!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Randi--to be fair to my kid, I was still in "regular" jeans at 20 weeks and then week 21 I just kind of popped out!

Valerie--what is it with avocados and watermelon? :)

Brookeanne--yes ;) and I'm not the best person to come to if you're wanting advice of the frugal nature. we just trust that if we're doing the Lord's will we will be provided for.

    Strawberryblond--must be that sauce!!

mama@you are my heart--we're pretty much past that joke, and it's "you trying for a boy?" now.

Laura--that was taken in NYC a few weeks ago at a furniture store we happened to walk by.

  17. I'm so glad for you! Baby Dill 6 - its wonderfull!!!
During the first pregnancy, I was going crazy from the smell of damp wood. I had a soap with sawdust, and while taking a shower, I suddenly ate a piece))) then there was a hiccup and a nice wood heartburn)
I hope you understand me (thanks to the Google translate)

  18. Congratulations on this new addition! You're such a lovely family. I don't know what to guess...boy or girl, but I am sure it will be astonishingly beautiful. It looks like you can only make beautiful babies!!! ;-D

  19. oh... about my pregnancy... I was sick from week 4 up to 14!!! I could lived only on water biscuits, ham and Comte cheese... After that all was great. It's easy to forget about the 3 first sickly months if the rest goes well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Awwww - congratulations!!! You look so absolutely fabulous!!! That is so cute that you all piled into the ultrasound room, I can just picture it! You are an amazing Mom!

p.s- I never did know how you reply to my comments via email, but I sure like them, sending my mumma an emergency call for more lemon curd now :)xxx

  23. I think the image of a pregnant woman is just one of the most beautiful in all of creation. Thanks for posting them. And, it's esp. great when you can be both fashionable and pregnant. Really love the photos!

  24. I normally don't comment, but I am a life long vegetarian. Since age 6! But when I was pregnant with my son, I ate an Arby's roast beef sandwich twice. Must be something about Arby's. :)

  25. Yippie! I have been wondering when in the world you would mention it! When you talked about cleaning the base boards I was like Aw man she is just showing all of us other preggy ladies up! I don't think I have even bent over to look at a baseboard the last months ha!!! I cannot WAIT to find out what you are having. Hope you are feeling as fantastic as you look!

  26. Congratulations. I don't have any kids yet, but in reading so many blogs about families, I'm trying to remember the all the tips and secrets about raising kids for when I do. I love all of the names you have chosen for your girls, so I am excited to find out what the newest name will be.

  27. I am the same way in pics. I can never smile, which is so sad.

I loved avacados during my last pregnancy. They kept me from being sick. But since my last pregnance (6.5 years ago) I cannot eat cooked green peppers. Crazy how that happens.

So fun how your told your little Dills. I don't think I could keep that secret that long.

  28. How exciting! What beautiful photos of you! And I laughed out loud at the Arby's roast beef, because that's pretty much all I wanted to eat when I was pregnant with my son. The only craving I remember with my daughter was a BK whopper. I ate it, felt sick and haven't had one since. She'll be 13 in a couple weeks.

  29. Katy, you look so great! Would you be willing to share some tips for pregnant style? I'd love to see a post about what you like to wear while pregnant, especially accessories. When you aren't too busy, of course. :)

  31. My guess is another girl - but simply because I could NOT get enough watermelon when I was pregnant with my little lady. And now, with Number 2, all I want are tomatoes! Lots of fresh tomatoes! Ironically, I just blogged about it yesterday: http://yankeeandpeach.blogspot.com/2011/05/gimme-gimme-gimme.html
I'm only 15 weeks, so we have a ways to go. And we WILL find out the sex - I'm way too much of a planner to keep that unknown! =O)

    ReplyDelete
  32. PS- Nothing wrong with the Arby's roast beef either! Add a little Arby's sauce and that's my idea of heaven on a bun right now! =o) I think it's been about 10 years since I had one - and I have had at least three in the past two weeks!

    ReplyDelete
  33. that looks like a boy belly to me :) i can't believe you kept it a secret that long! awesome!!

I craved tacos. beef tacos. i ate them for almost every meal and once had them 8 times in 3 days. everyone made fun of me :) we joke that my son is made of 90% tacos! s

    so excited for you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I always craved Arby's roast beef sandwiches during pregnancy. What is it about them? During my first pregnancy, they had the 5 for $5, so I ate them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for weeks. (Sounds kinda gross now...)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love Arbys a little too much. . . .:) I craved not being pregnant when I was pregnant since I was sick and likely to throw up for eight months. Anyway, you look awesome. Congrats again!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ha! I ate 2 full bottles of Tabasco sauce during the last last 4 months of my 1st pregnancy. I carried it around in my purse so that I could put it on anything.
For my second, I thought I might turn into a chickpea I ate so much hummus!
    Congratulations.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Chocolate with nuts... I gained 8lbs in one month, but loved each and every second. Best wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wait! You're pregnant? :) I craved soda and lemonade (the tart-er the better!).

    ReplyDelete
  39. please please tell us what avocado smoothies involve!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congratulations to you and your family!!! I am dying to know if its going to be a boy or not..:)) i can totally relate..its funny our oldest says she would like another girl and not a boy either but then she did have a talk with her cousin and found out what its like to have a big brother..lol!!
You are super cute pregnant lady:))

  41. so cute, you tiny little thing! i'm feeling like a whale about now. thank you for humoring me :O) i'm so excited to see this new combo of you and the Mr. i love that about big families- the uniqueness of each sweet face with the familiarity of features passed along. I'd love to see what your handsome little fella would look like but another lovely miss dill is an enchanting thought as well!

    ReplyDelete
  42. My cravings were salt & vinegar crisps and ginger beer (together) and chai lattes or white chocolate mochas (sweeter the better!). I don't go near a sweet syrupy "coffee" when I'm not pregnant!

    ReplyDelete
  43. what great news! I love your blog, and I usually don't respond, but this time I couldn't resist...
I'm also pregnant, 20 weeks now, with my second. which week are you up to?
wish that when I'm in my six pregnancy I'll look good as you...

  44. I used to crave Eddies Lime frozen pops. It was with my first, so a long time ago, and they only came in multi packs at the time, so I would buy a bunch of the packs and only eat the 2 lime bars in each. My husband wasn't so excited to have to eat the rest. We'd always try to get as many of them into my nieces and nephews any time they'd come over. Now they come in a pack all by themselves, which would have been much more awesome those many years ago...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Congrats on the new little one! The first names that came to my mind was Kale and Bobbi. I don't quite know why, but they both seemed appropriate for a boy or a girl.

    Have an awesome day!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ok how can you NOT name the baby Fabio....that is the most awesomest suggestion i've ever heard! lol
Congrats and many blessings sending your way :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh fine...just when I was about to catch up you go and raise the bar :)
Congrats on baby dill #6. I'm sure he or she will be a beauty just like the first 5.

    ReplyDelete
  48. You look incredible. Congrats! The beautiful people are having #6! Very BIG DILL!

    ReplyDelete
  49. With my first I craved watermelon, eating as much as a half of one a day. My second was cucumbers and my third was oranges. They were all boys. Then with my fourth, a girl, I didn't crave anything in particular but I could not get enough water. Blessings to you and your entire family.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I totally craved Arby's roast beef with my first baby girl and crave now with the second one we are expecting in July. However, we live in Japan and they don't have Arby's. It's sad. And I normally hate fast food.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You look wonderful! I totally know what you mean about the picture taking thing... I usually have to laugh about something, or I just strike a pose :D... As far as cravings go... I didn't have to0 many, to my husbands disappointment (he so badly wanted to make a 1 am run to the market to get me something exotic!)... However I couldn't get enough of cereal! It wasn't so much that it was the only thing I felt like eating, it was more of a "hmm that sounds good" or nothing else sounded good... :D... and I had a little chunker to prove that milk does the body good haha...

Also I'm pulling for a boy for you! Every Momma deserves her baby boy... :D

    ReplyDelete
  52. Congrats! I love reading your blog, and HAD to post about the Arby's cravings. When pregnant with my second daughter I craved Beef & Cheddar sandwiches. I think I had one every other day for my first trimester!

    ReplyDelete
  53. My morning sickness lasted 6 months with my first baby. It was really heavy and bad. I basically lived on water melons and close to the end of the 6 months I started craving chocolate chip bagles.
You look great in both pictures Katy!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Congratulations!! such happy news :)
No weird cravings for me, but I did love oranges and spinach while pregnant, and after breast feeding for over 8 months my normal vegetarian diet has given way to a few cravings for sandwhich meats...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Congratulations to you! No wonder you aren't ready to get any bee hives! You a re like a busy queen bee yourself, with a hive full of worker bees! I know you think BOY but I hope for girl. A gaggle of sisters is always something I wanted to be a part of. I have only 2 girls myself but I love that they are the BEST of friends (and the worst of enemies).

    ReplyDelete
  56. oh love those shots of you. Gorgeous!!!

How 'bout calling Dill #6 "Baby Pickle?" hee.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hooray!!! So so happy for you Katy! I can't wait to tell Brenda!!! BTW, I'm betting on a girl...if you have seven then THAT one will be a boy. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Similar cravings to yours, which is not surprising since we've both had only girls!

Watermelon, avocado with feta, lemonade with lots and lots of ice, popsicles, dill pickles, and my gross craving that I've had with all three: a philly cheese steak sandwich from the food court in the mall (gross but it tastes so good!).

    ReplyDelete
  59. you are just the most adorable pregnant woman in the whole wide world!

    just beautiful...

cravings during pregnancy for me included whole foods grapefruit and olives!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I've never commented but am an avid follower of your blog...congratulations on your wonderful WONDERFUL news!
    Six beautiful children!?!
I have three girls myself, and I have thought of you when my husband and I contemplate the fourth? fifth? etc. You have given me hope that we can indeed relish a line-up of the same sex if so intended...
We will see if things change for you soon! Either way it's bound to be good!

    Best wishes!

    Rae

  61. Wow 6! I can't imagine. We are 27 weeks with our first and I've been craving strawberry-anything and lobster. Strange I know. But after reading your post I might also be craving Arby's cause I haven't had Arby's in years but man that sounds good. Note to self: don't read blogs during lunch... Love your blog!

  65. Very late to post here, but wanted to add my two cents. I am also a long-time reader but in-frequent commenter - funny how pregnancy draws us out of the woodwork! I just wanted to express my congratulations. I’m sure this is just what you’ve always wanted – unsolicited naming advice from complete strangers on the internet, but I just can’t help myself. Ever since I started reading your blog, I’ve always thought the name Bliss would be the perfect addition to your group of little Dill’s. Beautiful and meaningful all at the same time. Hoping you get your little boy this time, but my guess is for an even 6!

    Congrats again - Stephanie
