WWYM?

Have you been following Ashley's [over at Lil Blue Boo] What Would You Make series?  She sent 4 of us the exact same fabric and gave us free reign of what to create.  She chose fabric that we most likely would not choose ourselves.  So far, we've heard from Kelly [of Sewing in No Man's Land] and her button up bloomers, Adrianna [of Crafterhours] and her maternity dress, and Mique [of 30 Days] and her embellished quote!  It's been so fun to see the different projects unfold from the same fabric.
Tomorrow I'm up!  Here's a sneak peek.  Does my fabric have a strange orange hue?  Huh.  Wonder how that happened.  Come back tomorrow to see the final project and a tutorial to boot!

  1. Hi - I love your blog. I've been reading for awhile now but I'm not sure if I've ever posted before.
I made you coastal curtsy skirt and it is gorgeous! I am in love with all those ruffles and I'm so excited to wear it! But I have a question - My skirt in back makes a kind of V where the elastic is attached (it doesn't fit straight across my back)and it kind of pulls down because of the weight of the bustle which exaggerated the V. It isn't really a problem - I'm just wondering if that is the way it is supposed to be? I want to wear a shirt tucked in with a shorter jacket so the ruffles really show, but I'm a little worried the v will pull down too low and look odd. I can't see the back of your skirt so I can't tell if yours is that way or not. If I did it wrong please let me know! thanks so much!!

  2. Lori-
It does dip down in the lower back hem, but it shouldn't be pulling to make a v at your waist. It sounds like maybe your waistband isn't tight enough, or maybe not thick enough to hold the fabric. What you can do is remove the waistband, sew the back seam up just a little bit more, 1-3" and put the waistband back on, removing some of the waistband before doing so. That should do the trick. Also, make sure you're using an elastic that is at least 1 1/2-2" thick. Let me know if that works.

  3. ps if the dipping hem line bothers you, you can always just trim the fabric, as it won't fray!
