Edgy with a side of Cranes

This week over at Project Run and Play, the challenge was to come up with a variation on this sweet dress fro Leila and Ben Patterns:
I came up with something I thought was sleek yet twirly (what little girl doesn't like twirly?!)
I gave the edges on the sleeves and the hem some oomph, kind of like Marilyn Monroe's infamous street grate dress.

I wanted an accessory that was just as unique as the dress, something unexpected.  I have always loved origami--making it for hours as a little girl.  I had to have a refresher, but loved how these ramie Japanese cranes adorned her hair, whispering sweet somethings in her ear.
This was my practice, much easier with paper :)

Azure loves the dress and wanted to sleep in it=success.
Head on over to vote for your favorite look.
The tutorial will be available for the winning look!

  14. I found your blog through Sew Mama Sew and I have to say, you are my new inspiration! I have NO IDEA how you do it all with five (I have three girls and always thought that was my excuse). I just LOVE the simplicity of your style, and your flair for reinventing simple silhouettes with unexpected or deceptively simple fabric choices, unique color combos and handmade details. BRAVO in every way. I am a HUGE fan and now have you on my Rockmelt RSS feed.
