Sewing Project 7

Made of pale pink dupioni silk

Let me start by saying I probably have more finger pricks from this project than from all my years of sewing combined (and I'm playing my harp this weekend...time to let my fingers mend). But. I made a hat. I have never before made a hat and as I dove into this millinery mountain, I had some questions that nobody could answer. Does it really matter if I use 18 gauge wire instead of 19? And is there a difference between millinery wire versus regular wire? And I had some questions answered such as why I should have had a curved needle and what exactly buckram is. I had fun, learning something new, seeing a world of possibilities open up as I learned the world of those called mad hatters. The previous post was the frame of my hat--flat. I shaped it to my liking, did some draping, lots of hand-stitching, and finally some decorating. Some people resolve to eat better, exercise more, or learn a new language. I resolve to wear more hats.

  8. I LOVE it. Will you be selling some hats on etsy now? And can I get away with wearing hats? I'd like to, but am I bold enough?

  14. Katy, I love reading your blog. It is one of the highlights of my day. You are so inspiring that I took up the challenge to sew something this month. And, you know me, I am NOT a sewer. But I did it and felt such satisfaction when it was finished. I made Kylie a new blanket for her birthday. She loves it! Ask me how to make a girl happy? Make her something! Hugs~Courtney from Texas
