An Outing with Pearl

I have two sets of children:  One set is the personality when they are with their siblings, the other is when they are alone with myself or Ryan. Really. Completely different child.  I took Pearl out last week for time with mom.  She did her own hair, which received a myriad of smiles and compliments.  She was my shopping partner at the grocery store, crossing off the items we found and adding others she deemed necessary. (She had the coveted seat--the grocery cart seat which she has long since been able to occupy.) Next we picked out a new light fixture for the entrance way, one I had been eyeing for some time, and Pearl agreed that we had to have it.  We had photo shoot on the butterfly, which received more smiles and comments from passersby.  Our final errand: Girls Scout Cookies. Doesn't that sound like the perfect date to you?

  1. Tell Pearl that I love her hair and the way she lined up all of those clips just perfectly. I am trying to spend more one on one time with my kids as well and you are right, completely different child.

  2. Just the other night Craig said, "I want to coach my kids teams and have a monthly one on one with each of them." We need to do that. Especially Lucy, she's been riding on Seth's coattails since birth. Lovely date.

  4. Pearl does her hair exactly how Ava would do it. She tears clip after clip out of the package and pushes them either into her hair or my hand and demands that they stay. Love the butterfly chair pictures!

Funny, I just wrote an entry that included girl scout cookies also.

  8. i enjoy those 'dates' too, maybe because i can focus on one kid without so many distractions. its easier to let them participate when they are the only one who needs attention. my stepdad used to take us out like that. he'd let us pick out gifts for our siblings. i still remember those dates well. they made more of an impact that he knows, i think.
