Fondue & Flames

I love to hear about other people's traditions and the stories behind them--please share with me!  I tell Ryan that I'd like to incorporate more traditions into our family's celebrations.  One that we have done for a few years now is fondue, both sweet (chocolate with fruit) and savory (cheese with bread and vegetables), for our New Year's Eve dinner.  This year we enjoyed it after the kids were in bed along with a bottle of well-chilled Meier's Cold Duck--yum.

Along with the new year, we had unusually cold weather, harsh enough to freeze our poor basil bush (which Ryan dutifully covered, but the towel blew off in the night.)  We made the best of it, however, and enjoyed the first fire of the year and of our home.  The girls were mesmerized and watched until it was time to go off to bed.

  2. We do have a fondue pot, but we didn't have it with us, so we just melted everything on the stove and it worked just fine.
