I don't like doing family photos. It's right up there with trading out my kids' seasonal clothes and shots. Not only is it a struggle to get everyone looking nice, simultaneously, but then you have to get cooperation from everyone, simultaneously.
These were taken after church. I was tired of waiting for the perfect opportunity, the perfect light, the perfect backdrop, the perfect moment of cooperation. I knew I just had to make it happen.
I re-did everyone's hair, hoped mine looked okay, promised Ryan we would take new ones when I cut his, used a make-shift tripod since mine is elsewhere, figured out how to do the timer and we snapped and posed away.
I had to study this one an embarrassing amount of time and count the kids over and over to figure out what wasn't quite right. Can you?Once we got to the silly photos, everyone was in a much more jovial mood. Well. Except Drummer, poor boy. His introduction to many years of family photos.
Our kids love it when we kiss ;). Despite much blurriness and a bit of frustration, these are going to make me smile and wish they could always stay little...in a few years.
I caught that you were missing one right away!! Do I get a cookie?
ReplyDeleteI love the color in the photo!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know the misery of taking photos with only 3 kids, so I can only imagine yours. Mine usually end with me screaming "Can I not have JUST ONE PHOTO with everyone looking the way that I want? JUST ONE! That's all I ask of this family!!" and that is followed by whining and stomping around (by me). ;o)
I love the kissing one and I love that it's blurry - trying to keep peace in the chaos.
ReplyDeleteI love it, picture 3 is exactly how I picture you all, I think almost everyone's is trying to get a hand on Drummer, you guys are gonna be able to have your own show Everybody Loves Drummer! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, these are so wonderful! I have to ask, where on earth did you get that amazing flower above the fireplace?! It's incredible!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful family, Katy! And that mantel and flower!!! Amazing! Your skirt??? Amazing! All those wonderful things you've sewn...amazing. Love it all!
ReplyDeletei adore everything about these pictures!, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethese are what our photos look like and we only have one little right now! I had to bribe her with cookies to take our christmas photo this year. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy parents have 7 adult children and 4 grandchildren. Our favorite part of family photos is the outtakes. Half of the time they end up as the "good" one. These made me think of them, so thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere's Azure's dress in the picture but what happened to her head? ;)
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous family! Love the outtake of you and Ryan kissing and everyone hugging sad Drummer. Love the outfits too. I was sure when we took ours that we'd get several decent ones but I only ended up kind of liking a few.
ReplyDeleteAnd in the end, you captured the Perfect memory.Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you took the time to do it. It's so hard....but so worth the beauty you capture...even when it's silly beauty.
ReplyDeleteSo impressed you got all those kids to stay still. The red is gorgeous in pictures. You have such a beautiful family.

ReplyDeleteMy oldest has the same hanbok - very cute on your daughter. :)
Ohhh, those photos are great! Way to try to get them at all - we're horrible at attempting family photos! And I just love giant piles of kids like that. So fun.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best post yet!!!! I just adore every picture....and also your fabulous skirt! Wow!!!!! What a beautiful family!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the prettiest hanbok I've seen in a bit. Where did you get it? I haven't found a good source in the US yet and I'm not exactly going to make annual trips to Korea for one for my little girl.
ReplyDeleteadorably cute children and their mama and papa too....bewtiful memories...
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures!!! Love them and love all your dresses!!
ReplyDeleteYour family and their clothing are strikingly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many other interesting layers in these photos as well. I love the green glass collection and your shoes! Are the green squares in the dentil moulding tiles or paint? Whichever, it adds such a nice finish to the mantle!
Just looked back and noticed the tiny chairs too!
What fun!
you guys are the cutest family ever! and you look so young!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors! Please tell me you did not make all these outfits? Please tell me you made drummer boys outfit and you plan to do a tutorial?

ReplyDeleteSome of you noticed Azure's body was there, but not her head! Not sure how that happened :)
ReplyDeleteMooseMouse--You are so observant! They are tiny glass tiles with an iridescent finish. We had the fireplace covered in them (which used to be a peach faux marble-bleck).
Anna--you look mighty young yourself!
Kelley--I made mine, Divine's, Pearl's Olive's and Clover's. Azure's dress is a traditional Korean dress called a Hanbok we picked up when we were there visiting my parents a couple of years ago. I did not make Drummer's sweater--we've had it for years.
could you tell us where you got that fabulous flower over you fireplace? i think its GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Love, love, love your skirt (dress?)
ReplyDeleteLove the fun pictures of your beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteLove all the pics of you crazy, loving and happy family. Makes me remember some of the crazy time when our 4 were all MUCH younger. I always love the outtakes of family pictures. They really show what the family is like. I got the ones of my oldest daughters family, she is embarassed and I just laughed all the way home with them.
ReplyDeleteEvery detail in these photos is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to get a good family picture. I remember standing there for hours (or what felt like it) while my dad tried to get the best picture. My favorite is the one where my sister sneezed mid-picture.
