Green Loves Red: Giveaway--CLOSED

People often only associate green and red with Christmas.
I don't.
Or else my whole house is Christmas year round.
Do you know why they look so good together?
They are complimentary colors: they are opposite each other on the color wheel.
And technically my color wheel has an extra blue in it, but you get the idea.  They're best friends, and like best friends, they compliment each other.  These swimming lessons gave me the chance to make this:
[And if you happen to go to the YMCA pool and see little red beads poolside, I blame it entirely on the wind].  It looks like a raspberry bracelet, no?  Perfect for summer. Don't you love those retro green glass beads?  Me too.  Leave any comment about color and you'll be entered into the giveaway.  Giveaway closed.
And if you're still not convinced red and green aren't just Christmas colors,
shame on me.
But, I won't leave you out.  You can still enter and win this, instead:
Admire these buttons every time you wear this.  COO-ELL.
I'll leave comments open until I get bored of looking at this post....

  1. I love your jewelry. Red and green really go fantastically (is that a word?) together!

  2. Your jewelry is gorgeous! I love all watery colors- blues, greens, purples. :)

  3. I love that bracelet and was just thinking about your beading the other day. You know what else I was thinking- I am so glad the guy at the camera store told you to but the macro lens instead of the 50 mm. He was right to recommend that:)

Color comment? I love orange and pink together- for everything. Another combo I love? Royal purple and turquoise.

  4. Red and green is one of my favorite combos too. My front room has a red wall with green couches. My kitchen is vintage red with green. Aaah I love the color combo. And the bracelet is amazing. The glass beads on the end are a great addition.

  5. I've always subscribed to the 'opposites on the color wheel' theory. Great post! And that's a great bracelet!

  6. So beautiful! I love blues and greens. When they are put together, it reminds me of the ocean meeting the sky. And that makes me happy! :)

  7. Red and green have long been my fav colors, altho I rarely pair them together. They have so much pop when they are paired with colors not so striking, a little muted or lighter... or esp black! I do love all complementary colors together. I never liked being too matchy matchy.

  8. oh gosh, i love both of those bracelets. i love deep red, olive green, and chocolate brown together...in fact, that's what our living room is.

  9. I love complimentary colors - and I like to wear them together. That's probably why I have such a complimentary life. I love your bracelets too, beautiful, as always!

  10. I have to say I was not a fan of green and red together prior to this post, only because the only time I'd seen them together was when my husband painted three walls in my dining room green, and one red. Forest green and red - I felt like my dining room was Christmas all year round. I think maybe the whole room in those colors was a little much, but the way you've shown them together as compliments to a room are fantastic - I love how they blend when it's small pieces making up a bigger picture!

  11. I've always loved blue. I always felt weird because I'm a girl and girls aren't supposed to love blue, but I do!

  12. I happen to think red and green do go well together--and as long as you don't have boughs of holly strung all over your house--then I'd say it's not a Christmas themed house :)

    both bracelets are fabulous!!

  13. pretty, pretty, pretty... After all of the rain we have had around here my backyard is the most beautiful, shades of green - at the moment I can see about five different hues of it. Your creativity is inspiring...

  28. I was plying yarn that had sunset colors in the singles (red, orange, yellow, purple, pink) - and every time a yellow paired with a purple, it rankled me, there was so much *tension* in the combination. It wasn't until later that I realized they were opposites on the color wheel. Red and green don't have the same tingly-tense feeling, for some reason.

    ReplyDelete
  29. YES! I love green and red. Beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I LOVE yellow. It is bright and cheery and happy. Lately I"m so attracted to all things polka dot and striped!

You do beautiful work. Wish I could do all that during swim lessons. I"m still busy chasing at least one kiddo!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am a huge red and green fan too, although the shades I prefer change frequently. But right now, I am all about light blue, light gray and light yellow. So peaceful.

  38. I am a colorful gal. Colors make me smile. Pink will always be close to my heart, but blue. Oh blue. I LOVE BLUE too. My baby girl loves pink and purple. She calls them "girl colors". Your bracelets are amazingly intricate. I would love to be able to look down as I blog and admire the beads. :)

  51. Beautiful! I love the intricate beading and the pale green is gorgeous. I love pops of bright color- pink, orange, yellow, teal.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think it has to do with shades of red and green. Too often, colors are over-simplified to their boldest/most common incarnations. How fun it would be if we all removed the cliche's and just splashed out the colors we enjoy looking at. Good for you!

PS - Swooning over the table/chair combo.

  53. i won't win, i never win.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love granny-smith-apple green for decorating and I love wearing dark purple lately.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Both bracelets are gorgeous! I like red & green and also red and turquoise.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Katy you're creations are so beautiful and intricate. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  80. You are so talented! And I love red and green - I think it depends on the shades you choose in order to not make it look Christmasy (which you've done a fantastic job of!) Most of our kitchen accessories are red and the other day I mentioned to my husband I wanted to add a little more color and he suggested lime green which is what had been exactly in my head too. Great minds think alike I guess!

    ReplyDelete
  81. cute, my favorite color is brown, to me its just dreamy!

Alrighty... are we thinking lucky number 93 this time? ;)

  127. Oh I happy to see that I have not missed your giveaway! what beautiful braclets! I love green with red too. And speaking of color, I just finished my summer chore chart for my boys. ReplyDelete
  128. Both those bracelets are fabulous! Red and green definitely can go together without looking Christmasy.

I love color. I'm trying to bring more color to my wardrobe. I've found I always stick on the safe side and buy neutral-color items, but it's time to break that habit. I hope I win your give away! Either of those bracelets would get me another step in the right direction.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I certainly don't think I have a color combination that I love the most, but red and green definitely are lovely... for more things than just Christmas. What beautiful bracelets!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Is it too late to talk color?! If not, I want to mention teals with orange (which is really just a few shades way from red and green, no?). I love it so much it make me smile every time I see it paired together. Throw in a little black with it, and I actually think it's the most perfect color combo ever!

Your jewelery is so amazing, it seems like it would be so tedious to make, and yet, here you are willing to give it away. I love that spirit of generosity. Very inspiring.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Colors take me to a place I have been before (or a pace I dream of going to.) The jade green and bright red remind me of Chinatown in San Francisco - the color of the neighborhoods gates, the colors on joss paper - the colors in a bundle of incense, the colors of trinkets that fill huge crates in front of shops.

The colors help me to recall the sights, smells, and tastes of my experiences.
